Don’t believe all the bad reviews!
My friend and I have just come back from staying at the Hellinis Hotel and honestly, we had a lovely time! We were a little worried after reading some of the reviews beforehand, but we really didn’t have a bad experience at all.
The hotel is definitely basic and the rooms are a little dated, but honestly, they’re no different to a lot of places we’ve stayed recently. Our room was clean and perfectly fine for what we needed.
The all-inclusive drinks are quite limited, which is probably worth knowing before you go. We brought our own vodka and gin with us and mainly used the all-inclusive for soft drinks, so this really wasn’t an issue for us.
The food is okay — nothing amazing, but there was always enough to make a decent meal and we never went hungry.
The staff throughout the hotel were absolutely lovely and really friendly, which made such a difference. The pool area is also really nice and we spent plenty of time relaxing around there.
I’d also seen lots of comments about the airport being right next to the hotel, but honestly, this didn’t bother us at all. There were rarely any planes landing after around midnight or before 6am, so it didn’t affect our sleep. In fact, we actually thought it was quite cool watching the planes take off from the pool area! ✈️
There are also a few bars about a 3-minute walk up the road, where you can sit and watch the planes coming in over the landing strip, which is actually a really fun little bonus.
Overall, we had a great time and felt that the hotel offered exactly what we needed for a relaxing holiday. If you’re looking for a luxury, modern hotel then this probably isn’t the place for you, but if you’re after somewhere simple, friendly and reasonably priced, I’d definitely say don’t be put off by all the negative reviews!

Unique experience in the Gestapo custody
By staying in this hotel you live the unique experience of the former Gestapo detention centres. It smells like mustard gas, airplanes land like bombs, the decor reminds exactly of World War II and the hotel has not been cleaned since that time. You can also share this unique experience with the hotel's wonderful pets, ants that are inside the bed linen.

Don’t let the bad reviews put you off
Location:
It’s is practically on the runway but honestly you get used to it and it never affected sleep of any of our party and we were at the front of the hotel.
There’s a few bars a round the hotel Skyview which is a trendy cocktail bar, Cafe Kanoni which is a nice restaurant and Captain George’s near the supermarket which is an authentic Greek taverna.
Taxi to the old town is about 30/40 euro
Atmosphere:
Pretty non existent you have to make your own entertainment. They were happy for us to bring our own blue tooth speaker for music on a day and night.
Rooms and facilities:
Very basic probably the biggest let down you do get a fridge but the showers are very small.
Sun loungers there are plenty but the pool area isn’t the biggest and there’s plenty shaded areas.
The pool is fantastic was cleaned every day we were there, but these is no life guard on duty so be mindful if taking children, we had two children under 7 in our group and they wore floaties 24/7 round the pool.
Food:
It’s basic but edible always pastries and English options at breakfast.
Lunch and dinner was always something for everyone 1 veggie option 1 chicken 1 beef or Pork and 1 fish option. I’m a fussy eater but managed it fine all week
All inclusive drinks:
This is where they let the hotel down, beer wine and kumquat and ouzo are included which is fine. But get repetitive, the staff were happy to mix a cocktail of kumquat ouzo, grenadine and sprite which was actually pretty nice.
Staff:
They were friendly enough left you alone to do your thing.
Probably wouldn’t go back but that’s mainly to location as we got very bored on a night.

Awful
This is by far the worst hotel i have ever stayed in! Rated 3star but I wouldn’t even give it 1! I don’t even know where to start at this point, I guess with a positive.. the staff are nice! Aside from that the food is awful and I wouldn’t even feed it to the local cats we ate out everyday! The all inclusive drink it’s limited, everything else chargeable on top! Pretty much every sun bed you come across is broken and there is no where near enough to accommodate all guests! The pool on the other hand is lovely and very clean! Now onto the room… the bed is rock hard could be softer sleeping on the floor… if there was space! The shower can fit one skinny female at best and our shower unit was broken so you had to hold the hose, you also washed the entire toilet and sink with it. Thank god we were only here a few nights, i appreciate it was a cheap deal but my god there should be some level that should be met! Oh and the noise… well you’re right next to the landing strip for the airport, I don’t need to say anymore.

Awful
Worst experience ever had on an all inclusive holiday, staff are rude, area theres nothing to do locally, rooms smelt of damp, shower you couldn't move in if you were 4ft nothing, aircon was pretty much non existent, if you raise an issue with hotel management they dont care, food was like dog food(granted you dont expect gourmet on an all inclusive) but edible would of been nice, what they advertise is far from what you get, right next to airport so all you hear is planes all day and night(my mistake slightly on that one) just didnt realise how close to the airport it actually was, the all inclusive option isnt clear when it comes to drinks, asked for a pineapple juice they charge you for it - no music or entertainment - no bug control, mosquitos galore (unfair to blame them for that) but 7/8 bites on one leg leaving me struggling to walk on it wasn't pleasant either, would not recommend kanoni to anyone, dont be fooled by the advertisements of this hotel, 680pp for something I wouldn't pay 380 for - ended up paying extra and coming home 3 days early it was that bad. If youre reading this and dont really care for reviews captain George's tavern just up from this hotel was amazing
