OH DEAR OH DEAR

This place, to put it nicely, is a paradox. There's all the olde worlde charm, which is its brand. The creaky wobbly floors, stained glass windows etc. Denmark's oldest hotel – all that. But but but… No service. No handicap facilities. Senior people having to heave their cases up and down the challenging narrow staircase with its perilously low ceiling. I saw a women with walking difficulties struggling down. No one to help. In fact, there only seem to be 3 main staff members. They obviously don't do help. In fact, the reception closes at 6.00 pm. You're left to it after that. We wanted to watch telly in our room. It wasn't working. Or maybe it was just the remote needed new batteries. We'll never know. There was no one to turn to.
They proudly announce on the little cheap photocopied piece of paper they hand you on check in that they don't clean the rooms! I guess they claim it's for eco reasons. I would suggest it's budget. 'Denmark's oldest hotel' wants to turnover as much cash as possible. And they certainly DON'T clean the rooms. The shower area in our room was a disgrace – muck and mould on the tiles and a stain that looked like blood or ear wax on the ceiling. Shocking. Then there's a shower curtain that doesn't reach the floor. I don't know how they get away with this.
The café/restaurant terrace – which looks exactly the same as all the other cafés on the square – is clearly a great earner for them. But the kitchen is at the back of the hotel. So, if you happen to be in the reception area, all you experience is waitresses racing through from the kitchen to the terrace, with plates of deep-fried food, the smell of which not only lingers in the ground floor area, but also travels up to the other floors. Yugh!
Breakfast is a sad affair. You enter the gloomy rooms. I looked to check if the buffet was ready. I assumed it wasn't. But it was. It was just so mean and meagre, you could hardly see anything. No one to supervise – of course. No juice. Machine coffee that tasted like instant. There was one of those supermarket plastic tubs of honey. Good news. But the bad news is that there was only a millimetre (max) of honey in the container. Of course no one to tell. It has to be one of the worst breakfast buffets I heve ever experienced. Even all those cheap chain hotels – Ibis, Motel One etc - do far better and always have someone in charge.
The chain that owns this hotel should be ashamed of itself.

The hotel location is great, staff are helpful and friendly. Overall okay, but the hotel needs to upgrade itself, outdated interior not aligned with building history value, the restaurant style/ menu is “old school” and certainly needs to be dusted off.
This place has great potential, but it needs to wake up.

No service

It was a rather disappointing experience. We ordered and it to about an hour as we haven’t pressed the button on the service cube to call for a waiter. However then we pressed the request to pay however we had been ignored for at least for 20
Minutes. Due to an attack by a sea gull on our food I took the left overs and went to the dancing staff which was more focused on the DJ then their customers.

Disappointing lunch

Cute and friendly service, but an egg cake made of whole egg on bottle and then a price of 169 kr. Plus a potato mousse with just potatoes and chips and that was it. Not quite worth a visit.
