The pool was not nice. It is dingy and not clean, but everything else about the property is wonderful. It’s not exactly in town but that too has its charm, and the food at every restaurant was absolutely amazing. We will be back, but not for the pool.

It is one of the better hotels in the area. I stayed there primarily for business.

Lovely hotel

Lovely hotel, quiet location on the Suriname River, very friendly, attentive, and helpful staff. Delicious and extensive breakfast. There is a (small) pool, a bar, a private 'beach' bar and 5 restaurant options.

Lovely staff and lovely rooms, but terrible coffee

The hotel itself has huge and clean and cool rooms and the sheets were soft, the Wifi worked, high quality bathroom amenities. Room and price scored highly. Front desk staff were excellent although I would prefer to have been able to book a taxi and pay the meter rather than taking the hotel taxis at 50% more than the meter taxi rates.
My main complaint is the poor quality of the coffee, which was awful; weak American drip style coffee both in the room and at breakfast. Please invest in some decent coffee makers, grinding from the bean and using proper milk (the creamer in the room was an American powder sachet seemingly made of chalk). The only place to get a proper cup is by the pool at the bar, which has a espresso machine, sapparenty the only one in the whole property.
Breakfast needs a lot of work as well. The croissants ranked as some of the worst I have ever eaten, lumpy and hard, not light and flaky, and there was only pineapple jam to put on them (which was fine, but some more jams would have been good as it gets a little boring). The bread for toast was sliced supermarket bread, the yoghurts were not refrigerated.
However the short order chef was good with an omelet, the local bananas were tasty, but the vibe for the breakfast was really an American motel buffet from circa 1975. The pool is small but there are impressive views of the river at the back of the property and a casino slap bang next door. The airport is about 75 minutes away, but beware that it bizarrely closes flights for check in 2 hours before departure, so make sure you allow plenty of time, and don't forget to fill in the departure immigration form before you set out.
