Hidden Gem

Callow Hall was just the tonic I needed.
It’s a hidden gem , beautiful boutique hotel.
Now hire was a lovely extra and we had the intention to ride but we just enjoyed the hotel instead. Maybe next time.
The food was delicious and the staff were very friendly and attentive.
I would recommend for couples or families , there are tree houses that you can stay in that my kids would love ,but I think my husband and I will keep this for ourselves .
Looking forward to returning soon.

Hello Alison,
Thank you so much for your wonderful review and for choosing to spend time with us at Wildhive Callow Hall.
I am delighted to hear that your stay was just the tonic you needed and that you found Callow Hall to be a hidden gem. It's fantastic to know you enjoyed the food, our friendly and attentive team, and the opportunity to simply relax and make the most of the hotel and its surroundings.
I had to smile when I read that the bicycles remained parked because you were enjoying the hotel too much! They will be waiting for you on your next visit when you're ready to explore a little further.
It's also lovely to hear that our Treehouses caught your eye. While they are certainly a favourite with families, I completely understand why you might want to keep them as a special retreat for you and your husband instead!
Thank you again for your kind words and recommendation. I will be sure to share your feedback with the team, who will be delighted to know they helped make your stay so enjoyable.
We look forward to welcoming you back to Callow Hall again very soon.
Kind regards,
Dale

Wildhive is a beautiful hotel. We especially liked its proximity to Ashbourne which is a lovely little town with lots going on, and is an easy 15 minute walk away. Unfortunately the hotel restaurant was disappointing, particularly the breakfast. Stay at Wildhive but eat elsewhere.

Highly recommended

Stayed for a last minute nights break. What a lovely find! stayed in a hive with my husband and dog & had a wonderful time. we were driven to our hive in a golf cart which was a little hairy but fun. the hives are tucked into the trees with a gorgeous outlook from the balcony. I was surprised at how close together they are but didn’t feel at all overlooked. the balcony has a lockable gate so safe for the dog to wander about.
we had room service pizzas which were delivered quickly & were very tasty. we had a couple of cocktails too which were very drinkable!
the hive was a little smaller than i thought it would be but it had everything we needed and the bed was comfortable.
super dog friendly, my dog got a great bed, bowls and a toy which he was obsessed with. really nice touch and much appreciated.
Had a great time and would highly recommend.

Inconsistent service and overall disappointing

I was so excited to be booked in at the amazing Callow Hall for a spa day 60th birthday treat with a friend. We started with the thermal therapies in the morning which we loved. We were greeted by a very professional, friendly, smiley and helpful front desk staff member. The building, the courtyard and changing room were fabulous, although we realised later that the changing room was unisex and we hadn't been warned that a man could just walk in at any time (luckily it didn't happen).
We then had lunch. The service was impeccable and we were swiftly moved inside when the heavens opened. The views, the atmosphere and the decor were stunning and one of the best restaurant settings I have experienced. I ordered a gouda, pineapple and prosciutto pizza because I was craving chunky grilled pineapple, but all I could taste was cheese. Not really worth £22.
Afterwards, we toddled back to the Coach House for massages. My friend was very happy with hers (I think her therapist was Natalie), but I drew the short straw. My therapist was sweet but clearly very inexperienced and hadn't listened to my request regarding my problem areas (neck, lumbar) and proceeded to begin with a foot wipe (very ticklish) and spent most of the rest of the time on my shoulders using techniques that felt ineffective and applied soft pressure when I had clearly requested deep pressure. Being an experienced therapist with decades of experience, I can be fussy but this is up there as one of my worst massage experiences ever. Very disappointing and I would not go back. If you do book, request Natalie.
Overall, a very mixed experience with inconsistent service. It could have been incredible (and it should be for the money), but on balance I came away disappointed. We will be returning for dinner soon and we're really hoping it will be top-notch.

Great Relaxing Stay In A Hive

We stayed for one night in a Hive as a birthday celebration. The stay was pretty faultless.
The staff were welcoming and polite throughout our stay. Going above and beyond for us.
We had dinner and breakfast in the restaurant and both meals were great.
I’d read a few reviews on here maybe not praising Callow Hall. But whilst every stay is individual, I’d take them with a pinch of salt.
We saw an earlier review about “service charges” but other than that on the meals which is standard. There wasn’t anything further just for the stay. So either they’ve changed the policy or that maybe didn’t happen?
The whole complex is modernised given the main houses age. It’s exactly what most older hotels should look to as a standard.
We will be back without hesitation.

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your experience following your recent birthday celebration with us.
I am delighted to read that you had such an enjoyable stay in one of our Hives and that your visit felt "pretty faultless". It is particularly rewarding to hear your comments about our team, who work incredibly hard to create memorable experiences for our guests. I will be sure to share your kind words with them, as I know they will be greatly appreciated.
It's also wonderful to hear that you enjoyed both dinner and breakfast, and that the design and restoration of Callow Hall resonated with you. We are fortunate to be custodians of such a historic property, and great care has been taken to blend the character of the Hall with the comfort and style expected by today's travellers.
Thank you as well for taking the time to comment on the discretionary service charge. This is a 10% discretionary charge applied to food and beverage experiences only and is entirely optional. We always strive to be transparent about this, and we appreciate the opportunity to clarify it for future readers.
Most importantly, we are thrilled that you left feeling relaxed and already planning a return visit. There is no greater compliment than knowing a guest would return without hesitation.
We look forward to welcoming you back to Wildhive Callow Hall again soon.
