Terminal Information - Departing

Most flights from Tel Aviv to Cologne depart from Ben Gurion Airport Terminal 3. However, if your flight or the first leg of a flight with a stopover is operated by a low-cost airline, it may depart from Terminal 1. You are requested to arrive three hours prior to your flight departure time to allow sufficient time for security checks.

Ben Gurion Airport offers several cafes and restaurants, and if you are already in the mood for shopping, you can go to the Duty-Free stores. A free Wi-Fi service is available in all areas and gates of the airport so that you can stay connected until the very last moment before boarding. There are also many power sockets spread across the terminal.

Terminal Information - Arriving

Flights from Tel Aviv to Cologne arrive at Cologne Bonn Airport (CGN). The airport serves Cologne, but also Bonn, the former capital of West Germany. The airport has two passengers terminals which are within walking distance from each other.

Underneath the arrivals hall, you will find the train station. From here you can catch trains into the city center. The S-13 S-Bahn will bring you to the city center within 15 minutes. Tickets cost €2.80. You can find car rental desks in Terminal 2. Taxis are also available, expect to pay at least €25 to the city center.

Things you should know

Before booking flights from Tel Aviv to Cologne, make sure that your passport has your signature. Your passport must be valid for at least three extra months after the date you are leaving Germany. As part of the Schengen area, Germany allows you to stay a total of 90 days in 180 days without applying for a visa. Israeli citizens are allowed to enter Germany as tourists and apply for another visa, such as employment or student visa after entering Germany. If you enter Germany with an EU passport, proceed to the EU citizens borders control line.

Even though Cologne is in West Germany, it’s still much cheaper compared to Israel, except for public transportation. A single ticket costs 85% more than in Tel Aviv. If you take a taxi, each km would cost you almost double the rate in Tel Aviv. However, when you go to a restaurant it will be 20%-50% cheaper, depends on what kind of restaurant it is.

Beers are half the price you are used to paying at home. Save some space in your luggage for shopping! You will find most clothing items and shoes 20%-30% cheaper compared to Tel Aviv. Remember that the clock in Cologne is one hour behind Tel Aviv, so when it’s 12:00 in Israel, the time in Germany is 11:00.
