Eurowings is a German based low-cost company, fully owned by the Lufthansa Group. It was founded in 1993 and started flying 11 months later. Another low-cost airline of Lufthansa, Germanwings, was merged into Eurowings on 2015. The airline used to fly (as Germanwings) from Cologne/Bonn and Berlin to Tel Aviv, but these routes have been canceled. However, in July 2017 Eurowing will resume flying between Cologne/Bonn and Ben Gurion Airport.

Today the airline offers more than 140 low-cost connections to all major cities in Germany, across Europe and to long-haul destinations.

How to Check-in

The quickest and most convenient way to complete the check-in is online or by mobile. You can check-in from 72 hours before departure, print your boarding pass and reserve a seat.You must fill out the check-in no later than three hours before departure. On domestic flights, you have until 30 minutes before departure. During the process, you can choose if you want to receive your boarding pass by SMS or email or to save it in Passbook/Wallet or the Eurowings app for iPhone or Android. The counters at the airport are generally open two hours before departure until 30 minutes before. However, on some airports, there is a different timetable, including Tel Aviv. Eurowings opens its desks at Ben Gurion Airport between 2.5 hours and 60 minutes before departure. When connecting from Cologne to other airports, you will get your boarding pass for the next flight at the Eurowings transfer counter.

Baggage Allowances and Fees

The maximum size of hand luggage is 55x40x23 cm and up to 8 kg. Each passenger with Basic or Smart fare may board the place with one carry-on item, and Best fare holders have two items included. In addition, all passengers can bring a personal item as long as it doesn’t exceed the dimensions 40x30x10 cm. Basic fare doesn’t include checked baggage allowance. Purchasing the first piece of luggage up to 23 kg costs €9-30 online. Smart fare includes the first check item. For both fares, the second piece costs €75-€150. Best fare holders may check two items for free. You can book extra luggage online up to 30 minutes prior to departure.


If you check-in online via web or mobile, or use the self-check-in kiosks at the airport, you will be able to reserve a seat at no extra cost. If you purchased Smart or Best fare, you could choose a preferred seat for free. Legroom in the standard seats is 74 cm, Best fares include a free seat in the more legroom area.

Booking Fees

Eurowings doesn’t have booking or credit card fees, but instead a discounted fee if you pay by a direct debit or debit cards. If you opt for payment by credit cards, the normal fee is €10 higher, but it includes an additional digital magazine of your choice and 100 Boomerang miles.

On short and long hauls you can purchase meals, savory and sweet. Eurowings service offers a variety of hot and cold drinks as well as alcoholic beverages.
