The Taj Mahal with its matchless magnificence would be of great interest to fans of history, culture, architecture as well as for enthusiasts of romance, poetry and folklore.

The city in it self is not much to stroll around in. But is absolutely worth a visit because of Taj Mahal, Agra Fort (Red Fort) and to get to Fathepur Sikri.
I've been to Agra 2 times. The first time, in 2001, we went to Taj Mahal, Agra Fort and Fathepur Sikri. The second time, in 2008, we did some more planning for nice views of Taj Mahal.
* Got a room with Taj-view at Shanti Lodge.
* Early up for Taj-queue.
* Went to the other side of the river for reflextion and an other angle.

OK, I admit I don't love Agra as a city. It is crazy, crowded, and has lots of very aggressive touts vying for your business as soon as you step out the door of your hotel. That said, this is the home of the Taj Mahal. And that, my friend, makes all the difference. It is more beautiful than you can imagine. Come early for sunrise and stay to see the palace in different lights.

I wouldn't say I like the city of Agra, but it does have some great sights...starting with the extraordinary Taj Mahal. Argra Fort and the Baby Taj are certainly highlights as well. See the sights and get out of this dusty, hectic city.
