Singapore Airlines is the flag carrier of Singapore. It was the first airline in the world to use the Airbus A380, the largest passenger airplane. Altogether it has 106 planes in its fleet, flying to 67 destinations on five continents. Singapore Airline’s fleet is very young, with the age of its planes averaging seven years and eight months.

The airline has five classes, from economy to ultra-luxurious private suites. Singapore Airlines is also the most awarded airline. The Business Insider ranked Singapore Airlines as the best airline in Asia, the third best airline in the world, and the best business class airline in the world. It's a member of the Star Alliance, and its frequent flier program is called KrisFlyer. It held the record for the longest flight, from Singapore to New York - 16,600 km in 18 hours, until this route was terminated in 2013.

How to Check In

You can check in online on your computer or laptop and print your boarding pass. Self-printed boarding passes are accepted at 49 airports. You can also opt for web check-in and download it to your mobile device. This service is available at 31 airports. Check the full updated list on the Singapore Airlines website. Check-in period is between 48 hours and 90 minutes prior to your flight. If you depart from Singapore Changi Airport, you can check in as early as 48 hours before your flight at the airport, but no later than 40 minutes before departure. Other airports’ timetables vary, but check-in usually starts 3-4 hours and ends 40-60 minutes prior to scheduled departure time. Kiosk check-in is available in eight locations.

Baggage Allowances and Fees

Economy and Premium Economy class passengers can bring one cabin bag, and those traveling in Business, First, and Suits classes are allowed two. The maximum weight per piece is 7 kg, with a size limit of 115 cm (length+width+height). An additional personal item such as a camera or handbag is also permitted. Checked baggage allowance for most routes is 30 kg for Economy, 35 kg for Premium Economy, 40 kg for Business Class, and 50 kg for First and Suites. The maximum weight allowance for a single bag is 32 kg, and the maximum size is 200x75x80 cm. On flights to and from the US other restrictions apply: Economy and Premium Economy can bring two bags up to 23kg each, and the elite classes can check two bags weighing up to 32kg.


The distance between your seat and the seat in front of you is usually 81 cm in Economy, but it can be as much as 86.4 cm. Premium Economy class passengers have 96.5 cm of legroom. Business class seats usually have flat-beds, but on some planes there is instead a distance between seats of 152 cm. All first class passengers have seats which stretch into a flat-bed. All seats in the elite classes and some in Economy are equipped with power sockets. Economy and Premium Economy passengers of Singapore Airlines can purchase a preferred seat by the exit doors for more legroom. The rate ranges between $20 and $100, depending on destination.

Booking Fees

Depending on where you are flying from, a credit card service fee is charged: Australia - 1.35%, Belgium, and Netherlands - 1.65%, New Zealand - 1.7%, and the UK - 1% of the total amount. Singapore Airlines doesn’t charge any fees for all other departures.

The elite classes - Business, First, and Suite can pre-order fine-dining meal from the Cook selection. Wi-Fi connection is available on all Airbus A380s and A350s and on some Boeing 777-300ERs. Rates vary depending on the destination and length of your flight.
