Aegean Airlines is the largest airline in Greece by the number of passengers, the number of destinations and also by fleet size. Since 2010 it is a member of Star Alliance. The airline was founded in 1987 as a VIP and business air operation, and also specialized in air ambulances services. Aegean Airlines’ first commercial flight took place in May 1999. Today Aegean flies to more than 140 destinations, some of them are seasonal.

Aegean Airlines operates 7-11 weekly flights between Ben Gurion Airport and Athens. Also, there are three weekly flights between Ben Gurion and Larnaca. During the high season, Aegean Airlines operates charter flights to Crete, Kos, Mykonos, Santorini and Thessaloniki. You can also connect to European destinations via Athens for a low price.

How to Check-in

Online check-in period opens 48 hours prior to your scheduled departure time. On flights from Tel Aviv, you can check yourself in until 60 minutes before your flights. On most other flights, such as from Athens and Larnaca, you may do so until 30 minutes before. After this time, no passengers will be admitted. You can confirm your automatically allocated seat, or simply change it during the check-in process. There are also self-check-in kiosks at the airport. You may use them starting 24 hours before your departure until 30-60 minutes prior to your flight, depending on the airport. When you fly from destinations in Greece and Cyprus, you may use a mobile boarding card. This option is not yet available on flights from Tel Aviv.

Baggage Allowances and Fees

All passengers of class GoLight or Flex may board the plane with a carry-on bag measures up to 56x45x25 cm as long as it’s not heavier than 8 kg. Business Class travelers may bring a second bag, 45x35x30 cm in size and up to 5 kg in weight. The number of bags, the sizes and the fees for sending luggage into the hold may vary depending on your flight, ticket, and class in which you are traveling. If you fly with a GoLight ticket, there is no baggage allowance. With a Flex ticket with one piece of luggage measures to a sum of 158 cm and up to 23 kg. Business travelers can bring two pieces of up to 32 kg each. Miles+Bonus Gold and Star Alliance Gold members can have an extra bag for each class, that means 1x23 kg in GoLight, 2x23 in Flex and 3x32 in Business Class. Excess baggage between Tel Aviv and Greece or Cyprus will cost you €20-27 per flight when you do it online. Payment at the airport is higher: €35-40.


Your seat with Aegean Airlines will be allocated to you for free during the check-in process. You can confirm the seat which is assigned automatically, or choose another one near your travel companion. Economy passengers will enjoy a comfortable 81 cm legroom, and in business, you will be able to stretch your legs with 84 cm of legroom.

Booking Fees

The ticket price includes all taxes and fees. When you search your Aegean Airlines’ tickets with Skyscanner, there are no added costs. Please note that if you choose to book your ticket via Aegean Airlines’ offices, you will pay a fee of $35.

Service on Board

When you fly from Tel Aviv to destinations in Europe with Aegean Airlines, you will enjoy a meal from the Greek cuisine. Business Class passengers will be offered a choice of two hot meals and will also enjoy Greek wines. There is a Duty-Free shopping service on board, and also an In-Flight entertainment system.
