Ethiopian Airlines was founded in December 1945, and its first flight was from Addis Abeba, the capital city of Ethiopia, to the capital of Egypt - Cairo. At the end of 2011 Ethiopian Airlines joined the Star Alliance. Ethiopian Airlines have 85 planes which fly to 113 destinations, including 19 domestic.

This is the largest airline in Africa and one of the few profitable carriers in the region. Ethiopian Airlines operates two daily flights between Addis Ababa and Tel Aviv Ben Gurion Airport. It became very popular in the Israeli market especially on routes like Bangkok, thanks to its cheap connection flights via the Ethiopian capital.

How to Check-in

When you fly with Ethiopian Airlines, you can check-in online between 36 hours and two hours before your departure. You can choose your seat during this process, and you will be able to print your boarding pass upon completing it. If you have no luggage to drop off, you may arrive at the gate 30 minutes before boarding time. If you have baggage to send into the hold, please arrive at the check-in desks at least one hour prior to scheduled departure time. If your flight is in less than two hours, you will not be able to check-in online. If you are unable to complete this process online or cannot print your boarding pass, you must arrive at the airport at least two hours before departure. All Ethiopians Airlines’ counters are open as soon as three hours before the flights until one hour before. There are separate lines for elite members of the ShebaMiles frequent flyer plan and Star Alliance membership cards.

Baggage Allowances and Fees

Business Class passengers can board the plane with two items of 7 kg each. Economy travelers can bring one carry-on item up to 7 kg. Any piece of carry-on luggage cannot exceed the dimensions 23x40x55 cm. Check your frequent flyer membership level; you may be entitled to extra luggage. Each passenger can bring an additional personal item, such as a handbag, pocket book or purse, or a laptop, as long as it weighs no more than 5 kg. Economy passengers can check up to two items of 23 kg each and Business travelers can choose between two pieces of 32 kg each or three pieces of 23 kg each. In each case, the maximum sum of the dimensions must not exceed 158 cm (height+length+width).

Seating

You can choose your seat for free when you book your ticket, depending on availability. The earlier you book, the more chance your favorite seat will be available. Economy class seats normally have 81 cm of legroom. Business class passengers will enjoy extra space of 132 cm.

Booking Fees

Not only that there are no booking fees when you book a flight with Ethiopian Airlines, but you can also hold your reservation for 24 hours without paying. If you do not complete your payment within this time frame, the reservation will automatically be canceled.

Service on Board

Flying with Ethiopian Airlines means you’re going to get a chance to taste Ethiopian national dishes. You will have a complimentary meal as well as soft drinks, beers and a selection of red and white wines. When you fly Business Class, you will also enjoy desserts. On long-haul flights, there is an in-flight system with hundreds of hours of entertainment.
