Cathay Pacific is the flag carrier of Hong Kong and was founded in 1946. It is a founding member of the Oneworld airlines alliance and a part of the Asia Miles frequent flyer program. Cathay Pacific has won many awards over the years and is known for its excellent service and comfortability. In July of 1998, Cathay Pacific made history by becoming the first airline to perform a transpolar flight, flying above the north pole. The fleet of this airline is rather young, 8.5 years in average. Its 146 planes service 190 destinations in over 30 countries and territories.

As of March 26th, 2017, Israel is on Cathay Pacific’s map with four flights per week between Hong Kong and Tel Aviv Ben Gurion Airport, and the airline is already considering expanding this route. The company has ordered 85 brand new modern airplanes, whose delivery will begin in 2024.

How to Check in

You can check in online as early as 48 hours before your flight and up to 90 minutes prior to departure. During the check-in process, you will be able to select a seat for yourself and your travel companions or change seats if you already selected them at an earlier time. Please note that on flights departing from Tel Aviv it is not possible to print your boarding pass or to have a mobile boarding card. However, you may do so on your return flight from Hong Kong. Check-in counters at Ben Gurion Airport open three hours before the flight and close punctually 60 minutes prior to departure. You must be at the gate no later than 30 minutes before your flight takes off.

Baggage Allowances and Fees

Each passenger may board the cabin with one piece of carry-on luggage no larger than 56x36x23 cm. The weight allowance depends on the travel class: Economy and Economy Premium - 7 kg, Business Class - 10 kg, and First Class - 15 kg. You can bring another small personal item such as a bag or laptop, as long as it does not exceed 30x40x15 cm. All passengers traveling from Tel Aviv to Hong Kong with Cathay Pacific have a free checked baggage allowance: Economy - 30 kg, Premium Economy - 35 kg, Business Class - 40 kg, and First Class - 50 kg. First Class passengers may split their allowance between up to three bags. All other passengers may carry up to two pieces. In all cases, the maximum weight per item is 32 kg, and no larger than 203 cm (height+length+width). If you need an extra allowance, it may be cheaper to purchase an extra item allowance, as it costs $30 total as opposed to $20 per extra kg.


If you buy Economy Supersaver or Save fares, you will not be able to pre-book your seat before the check-in period. Standard and Premium Economy passengers can do so as part of their ticket. Seats with extra legroom on this route cost $150 or 30,000 Asia Miles. Elite members of Marco Polo and Oneworld frequent flyer programs may be eligible to a free booking. The seats in Business Class are award-winning.

Booking Fees

There are no booking or credit card fees when you fly with Cathay Pacific. Make sure you spell your name correctly when you book your flight, as the fee for correcting a misspelled name is $150.

Service on Board

The in-flight meals on Cathay Pacific are of fine dining standard. Meals include starters, a main course, a dessert, and beverages. If you have Asia Miles, you can upgrade to Premium Economy. Passengers on Premium Economy receive complimentary amenity kit with earplugs and eyeshades. You will enjoy your own screen, with on-demand movies and TV shows. Once the airplane reaches 10,000 feet, you will be able to access your email or WhatsApp and stay connected for the whole duration of your flight for $19.95, or at an hourly rate of $9.95.
